An urgent warning against vaping/e-cigarettes/dabbing

In the past few weeks, there have been dozens of young people hospitalized for severe respiratory problems after vaping either nicotine or marijuana (aka dabbing). The Washtenaw county health department recently shared that there has been a confirmed case in our county as well as five other suspected cases in our state that are being evaluated at this time. This is a problem in our own backyards and we all need to work together, with our children and our children’s friends to stop this “trend”. There have been 450 cases nationally that are being investigated, affecting 33 states with 3 confirmed deaths linked to vaping and dabbing thus far.

There is so much that is not known about the health effects of vaping and dabbing. This is why it is so important that if you or anyone you know is partaking in this dangerous practice, it must be stopped immediately. E-cigarettes are still too new to know the long-term health effects they can have on a person. If you or someone you know vapes or dabs and experiences cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue and fever, please go to the ER.

There are strides being made in the right direction in Michigan. Gretchen Whitmer, our governor, made an executive order to ban the sale of all flavored e-cigarettes in Michigan for the next six months. She also placed limitations on the marketing of e-cigarettes to remove words like “safe”, “healthy”, and “clean” as they have painted a false picture of e-cigarettes being harmless.

Please contact our office if you need assistance in gaining access to resources to discontinue this addictive behavior.
